Police chief on costs of policing City matches

A Northamptonshire Police chief has said that Coventry City playing at Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium could cost the Northamptonshire police force £100,000 from the start with additional match day policing costs adding to that bill.

Many of the matches Coventry City played at the Ricoh Arena last season were police free but with recent threats to Tim Fisher etc, the police could well insist that officers are present at every game that City might play at Sixfields.

Speaking following a summit in Northampton yesterday, organised by Northampton Borough Council. Mr Simmonds told the Northampton Chronicle's John Harrison: “There is still a lot of work to do.

“There are things to sort out in terms of traffic and transport.

“Obviously we want people to come to Northampton, I want this town to be a success but we can’t leave policing matters to the end.

“I am not trying to be a party pooper, but we should have plans in place.”
