City Ladies Midfielder On Cup Win Coventry City Ladies edged a step closer to defending their Birmingham FA County Cup trophy, after they eased to an 8-0 victory over Leamington Lions on Sunday.

Ashley Neville and a double from Helen Dermody put the Sky Blues firmly in control at half-time, and Natalie Brace and Katy Ward extended the lead after the hour mark. Dermody’s free-kick completed her hat-trick, before Nicole Dale and Nikki Miles added in the final minutes.

The victory over the West Midlands Premier Division outfit means that the Sky Blues will face Marston Green or Continental Star in the quarter-finals, and are now just three victories away from their third consecutive County Cup success.

“It was another pleasing performance by the team,” admitted Dale, who netted her sixth goal of the season. “We showed good resilience against a side that looked determined and kept on battling.”

Sunday’s victory extended Coventry’s unbeaten record to eight games in all competitions, a run which has seen them score a sensational 42 goals along the way. Dale was quick to point to the improving relationship between the players and manager Craig Nicholls, who arrived in the summer.

“The manager knows the squad a lot better now,” stated the winger. “The players are a lot more confident when going forward, with players now understanding their individual roles better, it allows for others to go forwards without being scared of leaving a hole behind.”
