Platt hoping King can help strikers score more goals

The presence of King takes pressure off other players. Coventry City striker Clive Platt is hoping that having Marlon King in the team will help him and his fellow strikers to score a lot more goals for his new club. Platt claims tha merely having King on the field attracts defenders to him thereby allowing other players a little more time and space, giving them that extra advantage and opportunity to score. The 32 year old Platt, who joined Coventry City from Colchester United in the summer, has scored twice and assisted in a few more goals for the Sky Blues. City manager Aidy Boothroyd had claimed that Platt was the type of striker who made goals rather than scoring himself, but Platt is hoping that having King in the team will allow him the chance to net a few more goals for his club. “He’s really good to play alongside because he takes a bit of pressure off me,” said Platt. “He has played at the very top and is very demanding and works hard and I think defenders are more worried about Marlon and sometimes take their eye off me which will hopefully give me a bit more space to get hold of the ball and bring others into the game.”   No one was more surprised than Platt that he has started as many games as he has. When he joined Coventry, Aidy Boothroyd had already signed Lukas Jutkiewicz to play alongside Freddy Eastwood and Platt thought he would play a more supporting role and be on the bench, but he has been given the opportunity and has taken it well. “I am delighted to be getting so many starts because coming to the club I knew there were a few strikers here and first and foremost I just wanted to be involved in the squad,” admitted Platt.  “I got a few sub appearances and then with a few starts I got a few goals and assists as well, so hopefully if I can keep that going and get a few more goals then I should keep getting the starts." “I set Aron Gunnarsson up against Preston and I got a touch on it in the build up to his goal against Doncaster but it is nice to see him finding himself in goal scoring positions and finding the net  and he put a great ball in for Sheffs to get the winner as well, so he’s really playing well at the moment." "He’s strong, quick and got an eye for goal so he’s a real asset for us and a real thorn for oppositions.” Platt is hoping to be in the side that travels to Ipswich on Saturday 16th October for the first game after the international break. He is also hopeful that King will be fully recovered from the dead leg that kept him out of the previous games so they can begin to forge a dangerous strike partnership.
