Former City player leaves Sphinx for Redditch Former Coventry City midfielder Craig Pead has left Coventry Sphinx t join Redditch in a bid to help bolster the squad after a dismal start to their season. The 28 year old Pead, who can play right back or  as a central midfielder, retired from playing football in 2009 because of a persistent knee problem. Pead agreed to play football again after Redditch boss Matt Gardiner dropped six  of his players after the 9-0 home drubbing by Boston. Gardiner told The Redditch Advertiser, “I had to do something after Saturday because some of the players who were out there were just not up to the task. So now it is time to start again and rebuild and I might have to continue doing that throughout the season because of the level we are recruiting from." Bromsgrove born Pead played for Coventry City from 1999 to 2005 and made 42 appearances scoring twice. He went on loan to Notts county then to Walsall signing for the Saddlers on a permanent deal in 2005 leaving them for Brentford in 2007.
