O'Donovan set to stay at Coventry
Striker is unlucky says Boothroyd One of Aidy Boothroyd's first signings for Coventry City was that of a former City Academy player Roy O'Donovan, who rejoined Coventry from Sunderland on a free transfer last summer, but his chances have been limited with the subsequent arrival of more strikers. It had been hoped that O'Donovan would be sold or sent out on loan during the January transfer window, but he is still at the club and now Boothroyd is reluctant to let the 25 year old player leave because of the amount of injured players currently in the Coventry squad. Boothroyd admitted, “At this moment in time we have got to keep as many as we can. It has been well documented that it is right for Michael McIndoe to move on but Roy is different because he is in and around the squad each week and on the bench.” Boothroyd has a lot of sympathy for O'Donovan, who is equally happy playing either on the wing or as a striker. He thinks he has been just unlucky He said, “I think Roy has been unlucky. He’s an excellent professional who comes in and does his work every week and I have got no doubts about him because of what he has done before at Hartlepool where he scored nine goals in 15 games on loan last season, but I think the fact that Marlon King, Clive Platt, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Freddy Eastwood have done so well, he’s been unfortunate." "He’s a good lad, as they all are, which shows you have got to get the character right first. I have got a little bit of a phobia of letting anyone go at the minute after our recent injury list until we get more players back fit." "We will keep our fingers crossed because if we get any more we’re going to have to build an extension to the treatment room.”
