No bids for Westwood
Boothroyd moves to reassure fans Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has moved to quell speculation surrounding his star goal keeper Keiren Westwood. Boothroyd has emphatically denied the club have received any bids for the Irish international goal keeper. Earlier press reports had suggested that Celtic were on the verge of making a £1.7m bid for Westwood, who has a year left on his contract. Later, the press were reporting that Coventry City had slapped a £4m price tag on the 25 year old. When Boothroyd was asked about the rumours surrounding Westwood, he said, “There is nothing in that at all.!" // '); // ]]> "We’ve had no contact from Celtic and negotiations are on-going with Keiren who I really like and want to stay.” Coventry City are negotiating with Westwood and his agent about a new contract and the player has repeatedly insisted he is happy at Coventry and has no desire to move on, but he has yet to agree terms with the club and put pen to paper. One of Boothroyd's big bargaining points is that he can offer Westwood virtually guaranteed first team football, which he needs to pursue his aim of becoming the number one choice goal keeper for the Republic of Ireland, something he could not be guaranteed if he moved to a Premiership club. Boothroyd added, “I think the Championship is far more competitive than the Scottish Premier League and his chances of getting to the English Premier League will be far greater if he stays here.” Westwood did not figure in last night dour 0-0 draw at Nuneaton, he was in the stands where he watched the trialist goal keeper Kevin Ellegaarde, a 27 year old Danish international.
