Middlesbrough managerial race gets underway No sooner had Gordon Strachan walked away from the manager's job at Middlesbrough than the  race for the hot seat at The Riverside starts. Strachan walked away from his job after tearing up his contract and admitted he had failed to make an impact. The former Coventry City manager will not be eligible, nor will he claim a penny in compensation. The first name to be mentioned in connection with the now vacant job is former Middlesbrough player and favourite Tony Mowbray. Mowbray, born in Saltburn, near Middlesbrough, played for Middlesbrough from 1982-91 and eventually became club captain under former Coventry City player and manager Bruce Rioch. Mowbray has been manager of Ipswich, Hibernian West Bromwich Albion and Celtic, but will be best remembered as the manager who led The Baggies to promotion to the Premier League in 2008, but were relegated after just one season.
