More singings on the way soon. Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has revealed that the signing of Gary McSheffrey is the tip of the iceberg and more new faces will be at The Ricoh in the near future. As for McSheffrey, he said of his return to his home town club, "I feel I can add quality to the squad and play a big part in a successful season.""People who know what the club means to me will know that I wouldn't come back here if it thought I wasn't up to the challenge, if there was any chance of me letting myself down."Boothroyd added, "He was born a stone's throw from the old ground, he had a fantastic spell here and earned the club some money when he moved on. He improved as a player at Birmingham and then became available as a free transfer, so you couldn't ask for much more, but the thing that really attracted me most was that he's still hungry and ambitious." "Sometimes players who have done well are comfortable and settled down but Gary wants to do even better here than he did first time around. To get him on a free transfer is a massive coup for us at this stage and he will be the first of many."McSheffrey is a striker who can play on the left wing, a position where he played most during his spell at St Andrews, but Boothroyd hinted that he might use Sheffers as a striker rather than as a winger, saying, "Gary loves scoring goals and now it's up to me to build a side to complement those skills." "The squad didn't have enough goals in it which is why Gary is our first signing because I believe he can provide them. We have to make sure we can give him plenty of service, just as he will give service to others with his creative skills.""I see him as being an integral part of our attack but I'm not going to give him a set position. In modern-day football you want strikers who can play in the middle or drift out to the left or the right. He is a different player now." "He is more experienced, he has been away and scored goals at a different club which is not always easy. He has been promoted and played at the very top level so he should be better than he was before. Like all players he needs a good pre-season to convince him that he fits into what we want to do and I am sure he will. "There will be pressure on him because you always work in the shadow of what you achieved before; we've both had Premier League experience, one on the pitch, one sitting in the dugout and we both want to get that back.""We know he's fit. We've probed him and prodded him and he's in fantastic physical position and I'm sure he's going to be a big asset to us for the next couple of years. Signing Gary is a statement, a marker in the sand and I see it as a big step in the right direction."Boothroyd revealed that he is working hard to get some much needed quality into an under performing Coventry City side and to turn it into a team capable of competing for promotion. He said, "The offers and the enquiries are all in. I know exactly who I want and now it is just a question of getting them. We should get another one today and I am hoping to bring in two more this week and perhaps another two next week, if everything goes great we could have six in by this time next week."
