We are good enough to be mid table: McSheffrey

Coventry City striker McSheffrey has said he believes the Sky Blues have A good enough squad to survive their relegation battle and stay in the Championship.

With Coventry firmly rooted at the base of the Championship table and needing eight points just to climb out of the bottom three places and that is if those team around City fail to win any points of their own, the task facing the club is enormous.

Speaking to the CT, the 29 year old McSheffrey said, “At the minute people question the squad and numbers when things aren’t going great but I still think we have got enough to be a mid-table team in this league.

“Some people might think different. It’s all about opinions. Some people will say we haven’t got enough but there were five or six lads who weren’t in the squad on Saturday who are solid Championship players, so when everyone is fit you would like to think we have got enough.

“It’s the manager’s decision in January whether he thinks the squad is big enough, deep enough and good enough. There are still 25 games left and 70-odd points to play for so we have got to look at the positives.

"It is amazing what a win could do for our confidence so we have to look on the bright side and if we don’t have that mentality we might as well give up now,but that’s not the case.”

Coventry face a relatively short trip to play in form Peterborough on Saturday. The Posh are scoring plenty of goals at the moment and will test the leaky City defence, but McSheffrey is hoping his side can go there and get a result.

He said, “Hopefully we can go there and have a good game. They always seem to have high scoring games, especially at home, so hopefully it can be a confidence booster.

"Hopefully there will be a bit of entertainment for the fans and enjoy a game of football and get a few goals.”
