Long Wait For Ricoh Arena Train Station Set To Continiue

11 August 2011 13:27
Wait for train station continues It looks increasingly likely that there will be no train station next door to Coventry City FC's Ricoh Arena home until 2013 at the earliest. This estimated completion date still depends on the Transport Minister Phillip Hammond giving the go-ahead for the first phase of the NUCKLE (Nuneaton, Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington) scheme which will see a £10.5m new platform and track alterations at Coventry Station, a £5.6m six carriage platform station at the Ricoh Arena, a £1.1m platform extension at Bedworth station and a new three carriage platform station at Bermuda Park. Coventry City Council and all the other partners in the project are looking for the Government to chip in with £10.5m of the £23m scheme and have, according to the CT's Les Reid, been told that if funding is not approved, they cannot claim back any of the £2m already spent on the project. The City Council are to discuss the final business case on Tuesday which the Transport Minister will either approve or reject at the end of this year.
