Pressley On The Fitness Of Leon Clarke

Coventry City Manager Steven Pressley has said that Leon Clarke is looking fitter than ever.

Clarke is back in training after over-coming a hip injury and the City boss told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:Leon is back training and came through his first full session today.

“Jordan Willis is the only one yet to return to the group so at this moment we have a relatively clean bill of health.

“Leon is slightly ahead of schedule and he’s looking very fit just now. His times on some of the fitness work he’s been doing are actually better than they were in the pre-season, which is really interesting.

“It’s something we have spoken about, that the players’ fitness will hopefully improve during the course of the season and that seems to be the case with several of his times for some of the running we’ve done.

“So that’s pleasing to hear. If you look at Leon this is probably the most intense period of his career in terms of playing games. He’s probably never played as much. He’s played 21 consecutive games and I don’t think he’s ever experienced that.

“It’s a tall order, especially given the demands we put on the strikers both in and out of possession, so maybe it might benefit Leon in the long term.”
