Coventry Sphinx are now out of all their cup competitions after going down to late 2-1 defeat at Heath Hayes.

Sphinx started this Polymac League Cup brighly, playing good attacking football and apart from one speculative thirty yarder from Lee Stretton going wide, Danny McSheffrey's side were the better side going into the break and could have been ahead if the home keeper Andrew Jenkins had not superbly beaten away Robbie Stevenson's free kick.

Sphinx took the impetus into the second half and in the 49th minute went ahead thanks to Arron Donaldson flicking past Jenkins from a deep Stevenson cross.

However, in the 57th minute, Sphinx keeper Carl O''Neill, who had made some brave challenges, was dispossessed and Ben Haseley was able to fire into the empty net net and level the match.

Ashley Jackson struck the post and boosted by this left off, the home side struck back. Craig Hancox should have scored when he fired over at the far post but in the 86th minute, the ball went out to substitute Steve Allen on the right and he sent a stunning 25 yarder high into the roof of the net to condemn Sphinx to defeat.
