Kirkland going nowhere says Martinez

Former Coventry 'keeper will stay at Wigan Former Coventry City goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, who now plies his trade at Wigan Athletic, has recently been at the centre of speculation that he wants to move from Wigan after dropping to number two choice 'keeper behind Ali Al Habsi. Al Habsi is on loan at Wigan from Bolton Wanderers and has replaced the 29 year old Kirkland in the pecking order, but Kirkland played against Bolton on Saturday because Al Habsi couldn't play against his parent club. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez told The Press Association, "We need Chris Kirkland at this football club, there is no other issue at all. I have got a great relationship with Chris and we have spoken about his role at the football club." "I told him he has been a number one for many seasons and has earned the respect of the fans and everyone."
