King has much more to offer

Striker nowhere near his best yet Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has said that the fans have not yet seen anywhere near the best of striker Marlon King and that the best is yet to come. Boothroyd said that in his opinion King is only performing at around 60% of his potential, but in is defence, he also thinks his team are only performing at that same level of their collective ability. Speaking about King and the fact that he has yet to score a goal for the Sky Blues except for the second goal at Scunthorpe that was given as a Murphy own goal, Boothroyd said, There was never any doubt he was going to score and it will go down in the programme as his goal.”  “It was just a matter of time but he is still not anywhere near where he can be or where we want him to be.  I still think we are only seeing 60 per of what he is but that will come with time and the more games and more training sessions the better he will be.” However Boothroyd thinks the team on the whole have a lot more to give and that they have learned a lot in the recent three game losing streak and the manner in which they bounced back with two  successive wins. “You never know what’s round the corner with injuries and suspensions and that’s why I have always talked about how important the squad is, but the fact that we can go to Scunthorpe on a horrible, bitterly cold day and win, I think, shows how far we have come and what character and spirit is in the team, but we are nowhere near finished, "he said. “I have talked about Marlon being at 60 per but I think we are at 60 per cent as a team so there is a lot more to come from us and that’s the exciting thing, but we have to deal with all the injuries and suspensions and there is always another team in front trying to stop you." “The players know the next game is the most import thing and that’s Middlesbrough at home. It is a clean slate again and we have got to pick up three points against them.” Saturday's home game against Middlesbrough is still on  at the moment despite the bad weather and the grounds staff are working hard to keep the pitch in playable condition, but the training ground is not usable so the players are having to train indoors. However the ground staff are hopeful of getting the covers off the training ground so the squad van have an outdoors session at some time today. The weather has affected City’s training programme this week when the players were forced to train inside yesterday, although they hoped to get the covers off at Ryton for a session outside today. // '); // ]]> Boothroyd explained, “The groundsmen have been assessing the pitch. They have had the covers on but we have got plenty of people in the city who are willing to accommodate us in doors should we need to, and we will if we have to." “Sometimes it is a good thing because it is an opportunity to get a bit of cross training in and it does them good to do less weight bearing work in the pool because you can work people extra hard and they don’t realise it, so it can do them more good than they think and so sometimes it can be a blessing
