Striker to make debut tonight Coventry City's latest signing, striker Lukas Jutkiewicz could make his debut for the club in tonights friendly at Shrewsbury. The big, 21 year old has said he can't wait for the season to start and to play in the first league game of the season against Portsmouth. Jutkiewicz joined City on a three year deal yesterday, but revealed he had hoped tat the deal could have been done last week, but City tried to get him on a loan deal, but Everton wanted a permanent deal for the striker. Jutkiewicz said, I’m really happy to be here. Ideally it would have been done last week. “I spoke to the manager who is really ambitious and has got a lot of plans for the club, and I am the same. I am an ambitious player and it seemed like a good fit." “He was a really young manager in the Premiership after getting Watford up which shows the hunger he has got, and I want to be a part of that.” Jutkiewicz was asked how the deal unfolded and explained, “Coventry spoke to David Moyes and asked what the situation is, and he said he would let me go if the price was right." “As soon as the manager said there was interest I was really keen to make it happen. I heard about it last week and was itching to get it done as soon as possible. It is a test and a challenge I am looking forward to." Jutkiewicz spent last season on loan at Motherwell where he played 33 times and bagged 11 goals. "Last season was really good for me and hopefully I can push on and have another really good year. I think the club has got everything in place to be successful. It has got a big stadium, big fan base and a good young manager so all the things are there to succeed and hopefully do well this year.” Jutkiewicz has Polish grandparents and an Irish mother, but was born in England  and has an English father, so he is eligible to play for any of the three countries. He has managed a few weeks of pre season training with Everton, but lacks match practise and is looking forward to rectifying the situation with games tonight at Shrewsbury and on Saturday at The Ricoh against West Brom. City boss Aidy Boothroyd confirmed Jutkiewicz would play at Shrewsbury saying, “If we can get everything organised he should play a big part against Shrewsbury. We will start getting some games into him and getting him fit.” Jutkiewicz then explained “My pre-season has been good. We have been away in Australia for two and a half weeks which was a long time." "We started back on July 1 which is maybe a little earlier than other Premier League clubs. I played in one game out there so it will be good to get some games here before the season starts and hopefully get a goal." “No-one particularly likes the pre-season but it is all about wanting to play in the competitive games, so I think we are all counting down the days to the Portsmouth match. Being a Southampton lad that will be a big game for me, and it couldn’t have worked out better if I had tried to be honest.”
