One year deal for Gary Gary McSheffrey will join Coventry City on July 1st on a one year deal. The striker, who lived a throw in, away from Highfield Road, was sold by City to Birmingham for £2.235m in cash in 2006 at the inisitence of Paul Fletcher in order so that the club could pay bills including the bank after coming through the City ranks but has been told by Alex McLeish that he is not part of his plans and he can go when his contract expires on June 30th at midnight.McSheffrey, has been wanted by City Chairman Ray Ranson as a player to get bums on seats in order to boost flagging season ticket sales, for some time and he completed a medical at Ryton today after talks at the weekend.Speaking to the club website, City boss Aidy Boothroyd said that was not the main reason for bringing McSheffrey, who won a host of supporters clubs awards during his time at Coventry City, in : "I know about Gary's affiliation with Coventry City and while that's a very positive thing, we are bringing him in because of his qualities as a player and a character, not just because he is a local lad."We feel he will be a very good addition to the squad and all Coventry City supporters will know that Gary McSheffrey in his pomp is an outstanding player in the Championship."His last couple of seasons have not seen him hit the peaks that he did here at Coventry or in the year he was instrumental in winning Birmingham promotion, but we have brought him back with the aim of getting him and us back up to that level."
