Joe Says No Thanks According to the CT, Coventry City Director Joe Elliott has turned down any notion of him being a Mayor of Coventry.Plans by Prime Minister David Cameron to force a referendum in the twelve largest cities in England on whether or not a powerful, directly elected person should be come mayor like London had when Boris Johnson took over from Ken Livingston, could see voting in May 2011.The elected Mayor would then be the most powerful figure in the City and would replace the Council leader which is currently City Supporter John Mutton.Mr Elliott (pictured above), is a proud Coventrian. A successful businessman, and a person who has a massive amount of respect throughout the City of Coventry and around the country for not only his work with the Sky Blues including the SCG and Coventry City Diamond Club, but the world famous Coventry Transport Museum and the numerous charities he is also involved with, he is seen by many as "Mr Coventry". When asked by the CT, if he would consider standing, Mr Elliott said:"I love Coventry and would do anything for the city but there are so many things in the city I'm very busy with, and I wouldn't want to let them down."The current system is a good one and I can't see how having a directly elected Mayor would be better."Picture copyright of Covsupport News Service.
