Defender vows for pre-season return Coventry City defender James McPake has pledged to be ready for pre-season. The Scot, first spotted by Andy Thorn, has been recovering from having three broken bones in his back. “I have got my rehab programme so I’ll be swimming and getting in the gym while I am there and then I am back at work on June 15 to step things up,” McPake said to the CT. “I had the minor op two weeks ago so I can start doing some pool work and running from this week and I am slowly building up to next season. “It was an injection of anti inflammatory and steroid into the area which had to be done in an operating theatre because of the delicate nature of it, to get to take any excess inflammation away and give me some extra peace of mind that I won’t have any problems in the future. “I have had enough time off with the injury in the first place so I am just glad to be back on my feet and putting some work in.” Unable to exercise at all in the first few months, most players would have to watch their weight. But McPake revealed: “I went the other way and actually lost weight, which you could see in my face. "I didn’t have any appetite and the weight was coming off so I was told to eat more by the club. But I am back to my playing weight now. “It was really difficult doing nothing for two months and then training  again because you have to re-train your body after your muscles and ligaments have done nothing, so we had to start very slowly. “But I’ll be there on the first day of pre-season training and ready to go.”
