I Want More Northern Ireland Caps - Clingan

Sammy wants to play more for his country Sammy Clingan has said that he wants more Northern Ireland caps. The Coventry City midfielder has not featured in Northern Ireland's last three internationals and Clingan told the CT's Alan Poole: "I've got 25 caps now, every one starting. "We've got a friendly against Morocco next month so my aim is to make the squad and hopefully play some part in the game."The main thing is the qualifiers and even if I'm not playing, I want the team to do well and win games but I think if I'm playing well for my club it will make it harder for Nigel Worthington to leave me out.Scoring a few goals might help his cause and Clingan added: "The free kicks haven't worked out for me. I've had a few hit the wall but it would be nice to put one in sooner rather than later."We work hard on our set-pieces because the manager is very big on them. Against Ipswich, we knew they had a small lad Jamie Peters playing for them, so we tried to isolate him at the back post and it worked when Aron Gunnarsson got in a good header to set up Clive Platt. "A lot of games in the Championship are won by set pieces so we have to be as good as we can when taking them and defending them."I was thinking the other day that we never win three or four nil when you can relax and think the game is over."It usually seems to be decided by a single goal - but as long as we're winning rather than losing, we'll take that."Picture copyright of Covsupport News Service.
