Huckerby Returns To Coventry

Duo are corporate guests Former Coventry City striker Darren Huckerby and Sky Blues 1987 FA Cup Cup Winner Greg Downs are, subject to confirmation, the special guests for Coventry City's Championship game against Norwich City on Saturday.Huckerby, now 34 years old, started his career at Lincoln City before moving to Newcastle where he made one appearance before he embarked on a successful spell at Millwall.This spell brought him to the attention of Coventry City who signed him in 1996 for £1m. Huckerby, was signed by Gordan Strachan and made 94 appearances, scoring 28 goals before Chairman Bryan Richardson off-loaded him to Leeds United in 1999.A year later, he joined Manchester City for whom he made 69 appearances with loan spells Nottingham Forest and Norwich whom he signed for in 2003. Huckerby had five years at Carrow Road before going to America to play for San Jose Earthquakes.In 2009, he retired from playing.Greg Downs is a police officer and joined City after making 169 apearances for Norwich City in 1985. The left back had five years at Highfield Road, making 146 appearances, scoring four goals and being a part of the team which won the 1987 FA Cup Final against Tottenham.After leaving City in 1990, Downs joined then third division Birmingham City and made 108 appearances for Hereford United before dropping into non-league football. Downs played until his mid forties at clubs such as Raunds Town, Kettering, Worcester, Malvern, Great Yarmouth before finishing playing at North Walsham Town in 2004. In 2006, he had a spell as assistant manager at Wroxham but left in 2007.Both Huckerby and Downs are hoped to be in the corporate areas of the stadium before kick off. They will be introduced to the crowd at half-time and will probably be in the G-Casino after the game.
