Sphinx Boss Bringing In New Staff

Coventry Sphinx Manager Luke Hopkins has been working hard in the close season in hopefully bringing a few new faces to the club.

Speaking to the Sphinx website, Hopkins admitted that his main aim is to improve the consistency of the the results which will in turn improve there league position form last season.

He went onto to say " We played and beat some very good teams last season but we were also we very poor against teams I felt we should have been beating.

" I think we need to learn to start taking chances that fall our way even if they are half chances the amount of games where we have defended well but that one or two chances that fell to the opposition were tucked away where as we failed slightly in front of goal and that's not a slight on our forwards but generally all round.

"We are still a very young squad and the players I have approached have that mix of hunger and experience some who have played at a higher level and others who have played below our level but all players that I think will improve the squad"

Luke has kept with the same Management team Management set up.

Manager: Luke Hopkins Assistant Manager: Lynton Wilkinson Coaches: Jimmy Holmes & Lee Jon Rhodes

 Additional will be:

Goalkeeper Coach: Stuart Dutton Stuart 'Dutts' Dutton will be joining the management team to work with the goalkeepers and develop them from the youth team through to the first team, often an area that is left to work with themselves, Dutts will be working over the pre season and into the season with the keepers, putting on sessions tailored to their needs and playing a part in supporting Luke Hopkins.

Dutts, a good keeper himself and his son Scott (former Coventry Sphinx junior player) has recently signed forms with Wolverhampton Wanderers, hence a main reason he has taken a step back from his assistant role at Coventry Copeswood FC, allowing him time to watch his son develop at Wolves and still keep his hand in non league football with Coventry Sphinx working in an area he knows best.

Manager Hopkins said "I've known Stuart for a number of years, we've played together and had many discussions over the years on football and I feel he is someone I can trust football wise and someone who will always give me their honest opinion just like all my management team do and not tell me what I want to hear. He's coming on board to work with the goalies as its a position I feel we need to fill, its another set of hands on training and selected matchdays so im more than happy with the arrangement we have that he wont be at all games, due to supporting his son, who I wish all the best, nice to see local lads and especially former junior players doing well."

Pre Season Coach: Shaun SweeneyShaun will be coming on board for pre season to start with and across the season will provide cover for people as and when needed, Shaun was with the Sphinx Sports & Social team last year.

Hopkins said "I've known Shaun a long time over 20 years and we've had many football chats discussions, arguements but alwyas we've been honest with every other and thats what I value in people in my management team. Across pre season it a very heavy schedule and damanding with the large numbers until the squad is settled out, Shaun will be helping out, taking some sessions and supporting Jimmy and Lee jon in the summer, he will also cover across the season, and it helps having a back up and familar face to the lads."

Both of Shaun's two boys will be playing for the Sphinx Juniors next year, so he will be around quite a bit, but again the arangement allows him to watch his two boys develop under the sphinx banner and still be involed in football himself.
