Sphinx Boss On 4-2 win over Loughborough

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins was happy with his side’s 4-2 Midland Alliance victory over Loughborough University on Monday night, which was their fourth consecutive League win.

Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “We were again brilliant for the first 45 minutes again!!

“The game started well with Rickie Cutting and Aden Moore leading the line up top brilliantly.

“Good work down the right by Kiam Galdins put the ball in the box for Rickie Cutting to get up to head the ball and loop it over the Uni keeper, one of their defenders tried to clear it off the line, but the assistant ref flagged and the goal was given.

“Then, good work down the left between Ash Cain and Ash Jackson saw Jackson through on goal on the angle with a good strike to put us 2-0 up.

“Half time came and we really didn’t want it too, we were working hard, creating chances and with chances - come goals. ”We came back out and everything we discussed and ran through at the break, we didn’t do for 10 minutes, but to be honest no matter what the opposition will always have a period of play at most levels of football, its what they do with that time.

“Loughborough pulled two back, and similar to Saturday, this caused a spark in us and we started again, Rickie Cutting won another penalty similar to Saturday, but this time, Ash Cain’s penalty was saved with a good save from their keeper. ”In the 83rd minute,  a ball into the box and Ricky Fletcher was up to win the header with Rickie Cutting poaching two yards out to get his second of the game and put us 3-2 up and again with the next corner, good delivery again from Ash Cain causing problems and Matty Bannister found his scoring boots again. ”We made a few changes towards the end of the game to get fresh legs on the pitch after games on Saturday and Monday.  We had Luke Williams getting his second run out after 12 months off with a knee injury so that was good and we also have others returning from injury and suspension so the squad is getting stronger.

“It is going to be a headache keeping people happy, but my main job is to win football matches and push us back up the league to be competing in the top six where we believe we deserve to be.”
