Hall Of Fame For Former City Goalkeeping Coach
Banks honoured Former Coventry City goalkeeping coach Gordon Banks has been inducted into the City of Stoke-on-Trent Hall of Fame. Banks, was a League Cup winner with Stoke City in 1972, whom he joined from Leicester is seen by many as one of England's greatest ever goalkeepers and was in goal when England won the 1996 World Cup. Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, the 73 year old Banks, who made 246 appearances for Stoke before a car crash ended his career, said: "I'm very proud indeed. "To be honoured in this way after all these years is a wonderful achievement." "It was great to receive things when I played professional football," continued Banks. "You don't know what's going to happen when you turn professional, whether you're going to be a success or a failure. "I was fortunate enough to play in some good teams that got us success and then I got introduced into the national team. "Then playing in the World Cup and winning the World Cup was like a dream come true really. "It's fantastic for the family, these are the things they will remember, but for me as an individual it's another wonderful honour for me."
