Hall future to be decided this week
"I can still do a job for the club" says Hall Coventry City's long serving defender Marcus Hall will learn this week if he is to have a future at his home town club. He will turn 34 later this month. The Coventry born player has spent most of his career playing for the Sky Blues, making his debut in 1994 He left Coventry to join Nottingham Forest in 2002 , but only played one game for Forest before seeing a transfer to Southampton end in failure when failed to make an appearance. He then moved to Stoke where he made 78 appearances in three seasons before returning to Coventry City in 2005. Hall has made a total of over 260 appearances for the Sky Blues in his two spells at the club and was rewarded with a testimonial match, played against Everton on 2nd August 2009 and ended in a 2-2 draw. Hall made his return to the team against Peterborough last weekend following a difficult last few months, he said, “It was a big game for me and I was very conscious of the fact that I was coming into a winning team. I really didn’t know until I got into the changing rooms at about 1.30pm that I was playing." "Ben Turner had picked up an injury in training on Friday so I knew it was going to be me, Chris Hussey or Jermaine Grandison and I was quietly hoping it was going to be me, but I was also thinking I don’t want to be the one to bring the run to an end because I knew it was going to be a hard game, and it proved to be. “When their winger went through from the kick-off in the first few seconds I was thinking, ‘please don’t score,’ but we battled really hard and deserved the win.” Hall admitted he had spoken with his manager, Chis Coleman earlier in the week, saying, “Hopefully my performance is a little reminder to the manager that I can still do a job for the club, I went to see him last week to see what is happening. " "I know and he knows I am not always going to be first choice so it is just a case of seeing whether there is anything available. He knows I definitely want to stay and he is going to get back to me this week and hopefully I will get a positive answer because I know I can do a bit more here." "I know this season has been a bit of a washout for me for one reason or another and that was the reason I gave the manager and he understands that, but I feel fit and that was my second game in a week, having played in the reserves, and I really enjoyed it and was really happy to come back and happy that we kept the run going.” He concluded saying,"It was a really good game for a defender to get plenty of tackles in and it was a good team effort. The pitch wasn’t great again and you couldn’t even try to play decent football on it to be honest." “The manager said it wouldn’t be pretty and I think the supporters were happy that we came away with a 1-0 win which puts another three points on the board and keeps us up in the mix. We are not going to get too carried away but hopefully we can carry it into the Plymouth game." "There is a chance of us getting in the play offs and we would be stupid to think there isn’t, but the key is to keep on this good run and see what happens. I have been at this club a long time and I know that things can turn very quickly so we have got to be consistent which is the one thing that has been lacking in recent years." “I know it’s a cliché but we do have to take one game at a time because we know we have got some really big games coming up, but if we can have a good month come the end of March we could be really in the mix.”
