Aron Gunnarsson insists he wants to stay at Coventry despite discussions over a new contract having stalled. The Iceland international has been offered a new deal at the Ricoh Arena, with his current agreement set to expire at the end of the season.

Talks are ongoing, but manager Aidy Boothroyd suggests Gunnarsson`s wage demands have so far scuppered any progression, while the 21-year-old is stressing his agent is in control of his affairs and he is yet to talk terms with him. The situation remains a complicated one, yet the midfielder is adamant he sees his future with the Sky Blues.

Speaking on Thursday, Gunnarsson said: "I want to be a part of Coventry because it`s so different now to the last couple of years. I`m enjoying it again and it has a lot to do with the gaffer. I honestly don`t know what`s going to happen, I`ve left it with my agent and the club. Of course I want to sort something out."

Boothroyd shed further light on the situation when he said: "Players read the papers and if Wayne Rooney`s getting £250,000 a week then Aron think he should be on £245,000, he`s not quite worth that yet, I`m hoping he will be one day.

"You have to earn the right to get big contracts and you`ve also got the right to decide whether you take the offer up from the club. We want to keep Aron. I think his agent could perhaps do with a strong cup of black coffee and a think about things, perhaps he`s thinking about his fee more than anything else."
