Gunnarsson Sent Off For Iceland U21's

City midfielder in international action Coventry City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson was sent off in the 75th minute of Iceland's 2-0 Euro U21 Championship defeat against Belarus. In the Danish costal town of Aarhus, Gunnarson, who had 'Aron Einar' on the back of his number seventeen shirt, had one of his trade mark long throw in's returned to him and fired wide in the sixteenth minute. Ten minutes later, Gunnarsson was fouled by Butkatdin who was cautioned for the offence. Iceland who were the top scorers in the qualifiers putting six past Northern Ireland and four past Germany and in their first major tournament, had the majority of the possession but could not create a real chance of note before the break. Gunnarsson was certainly a marked man in a game where chances were at a premium and another late tackle from Poleitevich in the 64th minute brought the Belarussian a yellow card. Sigthorsson was twice denied by Belarus keeper, the second coming from an excellent 73rd minnute diagonal ball from the City midfielder. In the 75th minute, Aron Gunnarsson was sensationally sent off and Belarus were awarded a penalty.  Dragun went across the area, Gunnarsson, tackled him from an angle and the referee decided the tackle was worthy of a red card and sent the Iceman from the field of play.  Andrei Voronkov scored the resulting spot kick to delight the dozen or so Belarus fans who were going mad in the 87th minute when Maksim Skavysh added a second. Gunnarsson will now miss Iceland's next game against Switzerland.
