Good Turn Out For Dave Sexton Funeral

City, players and supporters turn out to remember Dave.

The funeral of former Sky Blues’ Manager from 1981-83, Dave Sexton, took place today (10th December 2012) in Leamington. Mr.Sexton died late last month at the age of 82.

At the ceremony held at the Catholic Church of St.Francis of Assisi, there were many mourners from the world of football and from the several clubs with which Dave was associated.  The substantial attendance attested to the considerable affection and respect Dave was accorded by his fellow professionals in the game.

CCFPA committee member Bob Bromage attended the service on behalf of the Association and Coventry City FC were represented by Club Vice Chairman John Clarke and CCFPA’s Hon.Life President Joe Elliott. Former CCFC Managers Ron Atkinson and Gordon Milne(who is also a CCFPA member) also attended. Gordon passed over control of playing matters at Highfield Road to Dave in 1981.

Amongst former Sky Blues players at the funeral were Gerry Francis and (Association members all ) Brian Roberts, Peter Hormantschuk, Garry Thompson and both George Curtis and John Sillett (also, of course, later a F.A.Cup winning Managerial duo with the CCFC and currently both Club Vice Presidents).

Tony Adams, Jim Barron, Dave Bassett, Alan Birchenall, Sir Trevor Brooking, Keith Burkenshaw, Martin Buchan, Ray Clemence, Paul Davis, Colin Dobson, Mike Duxberry, Don Givens, George Graham, Steve Hodge, Roy Hodgson, John Hollins,  Stuart Houston, Joe Jordan, Mike Kelly, Frank McLintock, Gordon McQueen, Lou Macari, Terry Mancini, Dave Metchick, Peter Shreeve, Terry Venables, Jimmy Walker and Peter Withe.
