McAllister and Dublin ruled out It is understood that two former Coventry City players who had been linked with the vacant manager's job have been ruled out of contention. Gary McAllister, who managed the Sky Blues in 2002/03 and had said he would like to return to Coventry. The former Scotland captain has also been linked with a coaching role at Middlesbrough where he would link up again with former Coventry and Scotland team mate Gordon Strachan. It is believed this will be his preferred option and that a deal will be done soon thereby ruling him out of contention with the Coventry boss' post. McAllister played for Coventry City during two spells at the club, the first between 1996 and 2000 where he made 199 appearances and bagged 20 goals. He left the club to join Liverpool in 2000 and rejoined Coventry in 2002 as player manager and played a further 55 times, but was in charge in 76 games, scoring another 10 goals. He resigned in 2003 to look after his terminally ill wife. The situation with former striker Dion Dublin is becoming clearer. The club are interested only in appointing an experienced manager, which will automatically exclude Dublin's candidature. Dublin spoke about the possibility of taking the job a few days age, saying, “Who knows? That’s an open door. Apparently I’m second favourite." "I would always consider a manager’s job, I’d always look at it and listen to the people, see what they’ve got say, and if we matched up in the way we were thinking and the way I wanted to go and they wanted to go then of course I would consider it. I would be silly not to.” Dublin joined Coventry City in 1994 and left to join Aston Villa in 1998. He played for City 145 times and scored 61 goals.
