Former Coventry City Ladies defender Laura Bassett scored for England Womens in their 3-2 defeat to Spain in their opening European Championship match.

Bulkington hailing Bassett, started for Hope Powell's side, who trailed to a Boquete goal in the fourth minute before Aluko levelled in the eighth minute.

With five minutes of the second half remaining, Hermoso put Spain in front. Back came England and Laura Bassett, who plays her football with WSL side Birmingham City Ladies curled in to make it 2-2.

However, in stoppage time, Adriana's cross hit England keeper Karen Bardsley in the face as she was challenged by Alexia Putellas and went into the net to give Spain a 3-2  win.
