Former City Girl in England World Cup Win

England Women's World Cup News  England's women's team are through to the second round of the Women's World Cup after beating Japan 2-0. In Augsberg, England took the lead through a superb lob from Ellen White which looped into the net from the edge of the area following a good ball from former Coventry City girls player Karen Carney in the fifteenth minute. In the second half, Rachel Yankey booked England's place in the second round when she slipped the ball past the Japanese keeper in the 66th minute for their first ever victory against Japan and the number one spot in the group. Former Coventry City Ladies defender and Pride Of Bulkington Laura Bassett got a taste of the tournament when she came on for White with thirty seconds of normal time remaining. In the other game, New Zealand came back to draw 2-2 with Mexico.
