Football League Supporting Olympics With Later Season Start

August 18th 2012 season start due to Olympics The Football League yesterday re-iterated its support for the London 2012 Olympics by re-confirming that the start of the 2012-2013 season will be delayed. With current member clubs like Coventry City staging twelve matches in the Olympic tournament and the police not wanting football fans in London and the South East travelling to games impeding on those trying to get to the Olympic Stadium, the  Football League re-confirmed the news that the 2012/2013 season will not start until August 18th 2012. "Football League clubs have voted overwhelmingly in favour of delaying the start of the 2012/13 season in order to support the London Olympics, " said John Nagle, Head of Communications at the Football League.  "This decision has been taken to ensure that police and transport links are not overstretched during such an important event for the county."
