Coventry City manager Andy Thorn feels that the FA Cup has been under-valued of late.
City are take on Southampton at the Ricoh Arena in an FA Cup Third Round tie tomorrow but Thorn who has a FA Cup Winners and Finalist medal, feels it is still an important competition.
Speaking to Sky Blue Player, Thorn said: "It is important now that we get that winning feeling back and there is no better way to do that than in the third round of the FA Cup.
"It is a competition I love and I think it has been undervalued in recent years. You always get a special buzz on third round day and I can't wait for it to start.
"It is a great competition which is steeped in history for both me and of course, Coventry City.
He commented: "I can match Oggy (Steve Ogrizovic) with a winners medal and I have a losers one as well which he hasn't got.
"For Oggy, for me and the supporters of Coventry City, the competition means a lot. The side, which won the cup for Coventry at the time was a great side.
"They had some good players then and it is nice to look back on those sorts of memories and remember the past success of the club.
"At the moment, my focus is on where we are going now and what the future is for us as that is something we need to address.
"In that sense, it is important to use the memories to inspire us now. It should be an example for the current team to look at the success the club has had in the past and bring those times back.
"It is a good club this and we love it to bits so we would love to try and emulate the success that team had in '87."
