Mayor Of Voorst on why he called City's game off

Below is an email from Mayor of Voorst, J.T.H.M. Penninx on why he has postponed the Go Ahead Eagles game versus Coventry City in Terwolde due to have been played next Tuesday.

"With you I´m very disappointed that we had to make the decision to cancel the game between Go Ahead Eagles and Coventry (scheduled for next Tuesday 16th July – in Terwolde) due to the risk of hooliganism.  A few days ago, I received new information from the CIV. On the basis of serious signals to the Dutch and English police that a confrontation between fans would take place, I have decided to cancel the match. At this moment, there are too many risks for players, fans and inhabitants from Terwolde.   Voorst is a sport minded area. A match between two such nice football clubs is great for our community and region. But we need to guarantee the safety for all of our people.  I hope that you will have a pleasant stay in Deventer and in the Netherlands, feel very welcome to visit the beautiful community of Voorst.

 With kind regards,

J.T.H.M. PenninxMayor Voorst"
