Davenport not fit enough yet

Leeds delay signing former City player Former Coventry City defender Calum Davenport needs to improve his fitness before he will be offered a deal by Leeds manager Simon Grayson. The 27 year old, who had his contract terminated by West Ham following an incident which resulted in Davenport being stabbed in both his legs, has been training with Leeds. Grayson is keen on signing the defender, but insists that he has to be fit enough before being considered. Grayson told The Yorkshire Evening Post, "He's had a long time out of football,12 months out with a serious injury that's stopping him from playing at all.The deal won't be concluded in the next week or two because he's quite a long way from being fit, but we're trying to get him fit.""If everything goes well then I think we've got a player on our hands who can get back to the level he was at with a top club like West Ham."
