Cranie still absent

Coventry remain without Martin Cranie as they head to Deepdale for a crucial clash against bottom club Preston. The centre-back missed Tuesday`s 2-2 draw at Burnley having suffered a hamstring strain in last weekend`s 1-0 home defeat to Hull and he continues to sit on the sidelines. Striker Marlon King serves the fourth and final match of his suspension for the red card he received against Bristol City. Cagey caretaker boss Andy Thorn insists he will assess a couple of other members of his squad on Friday morning, with striker Clive Platt (calf) and captain Lee Carsley (Achilles and hernia) certain to be two of those as they battle to make their respective returns. Thorn and Steve Harrison took charge of their first match at Turf Moor in midweek following the sacking of Aidy Boothroyd, and the duo immediately stamped their mark as the Sky Blues adopted a new-found 4-3-3 formation and put in a very attack-minded display. And speaking ahead of the North End clash, Thorn said: "There was no point in leaving things and changing them gradually, we thought we may as well go for it straight away. Even though I was a defender I`m not really defensive-minded, we`ll go for it as there`s no point finishing second is there?"
