It was a case of good news and bad news for Coventry City manager Andy Thorn yesterday with one player returning from injury, but another being sidelined.
Versatile defender Martin Cranie played 45 minutes for Coventry reserves in the behind closed doors friendly against Hereford yesterday and is now considered close to a return to first team action.
Thorn is optimistic that Cranie will be ready to face West Ham at The Ricoh a week on Saturday, but will give him another run out in another reserves game next week.
He said, “Martin came through OK and an X-ray shows that his ribs have healed.”
The news about fellow defender James McPake is not so encouraging. He limped off the pitch last Saturday in the 3-0 defeat to table topping Southampton in his long awaited return after a serious back injury. He has a hamstring injury, but how bad and how long he will be out depends on the results of the scan.
Andy Thorn is pessimistic and expects to be without the 27 year old defender for some time. He said, “It seems like he’s torn it and we are waiting to see what the MRI scan shows up but it doesn’t look good.”
