Chris McCann set for Coventry bow

Chris McCann may make his Coventry debut in the EFL Cup clash with Portsmouth after missing Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Swindon.

Chris Stokes remains sidelined for the first few weeks of the season after complications in his recovery from a knee injury.

Sam Ricketts recovered from a knee problem to play on Saturday and the skipper is likely to feature again in a youthful Coventry side.

Coventry are close to signing LA Galaxy striker Jack McBean on loan but the deal is unlikely to be completed in time for him to face Pompey.

Portsmouth boss Paul Cook is likely to rest a number of key players for the game.

Gary Roberts, Carl Baker and Michael Doyle played the full 90 minutes of their 1-1 draw against Carlisle on Saturday but should be rested.

Curtis Main, Adam Buxton and Tom Davies could make their debuts, while Kyle Bennett, Conor Chaplin, Adam Barton and Noel Hunt may also feature at the Ricoh Arena.

Matt Clarke (groin) and Brandon Haunstrup (collarbone) remain sidelined. Ben Close is an injury doubt but midfielder Amine Linganzi, who has been on trial at Fratton Park, is expected to be handed a rolling contract in time to be involved.
