Coventry City refute Blackwell rumours

23 March 2011 08:30
No contact with Blackwell Coventry City have denied they have made any contact with Kevin Blackwell and say they have no intention of doing so. Reports in yesterday's Mail Online and picked up by other media outlets, said that the club had approached Blackwell with a view to taking over the vacant manager's job until the end of the season. Coventry City have said they have not spoken to and do not intend to speak to Blackwell about the vacancy. Blackwell, a former goalkeeper and former manager of Sheffield United, Leeds United and Luton Town was thought to be keen on the City job. He has been t of work since he left The Blades 'by mutual consent' in August 2010. Since the news appeared yesterday, the fans forums and message boards have been full of anti Blackwell messages, but as the club were not considering Blackwell at all, the anger felt among the fans may have prompted the club to deny any approach to Blackwell. It is now understood that Blackwell is not the type of manager the club are looking for either as a short term solution or as a long term appointment likely to take the club forward. It is most likely that Andy Thorn and Steve Harrison will remain in charge until at least the end of the season.
