Andy Rose blooms as Coventry see off Portsmouth

Andy Rose gave Coventry the sweet smell of success as he secured them an extra-time 3-2 EFL Cup win over Portsmouth.

The midfielder was on hand to side-foot home two minutes into the second period of extra time.

Portsmouth were the stronger side for much of the game and took the lead in the 18th minutes thanks to the persistence of Kyle Bennett

The 25-year-old out-foxed Vladimir Gadzhev and when he cut into the area, the Bulgarian brought him down. Curtis Main sent keeper Reice Charles-Cook the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Coventry looked unlikely to score until wing-back Ryan Haynes volleyed in a defensive clearance from Ben Davies on the hour

Then, with eight minutes remaining, Gadzhev redeemed himself by turning in the ball from close range and that looked to be enough for victory.

But Kai Naismith thought otherwise and in the 85th minute he curled home a stunning free kick to send the game into extra time and allow Rose to produce his late, late show.
