Jodi Jones strike enough for Coventry to see off Port Vale

Jodi Jones' stunning first-half strike earned Coventry a narrow 1-0 win at home to struggling Port Vale.

Jones curled in the only goal as promotion hopefuls City picked up a first win in four attempts.

It should have been a much more emphatic victory, with the Sky Blues failing to convert a number of second-half chances.

City took the lead when in-form Jones fired home from the edge of the box after 24 minutes.

Antony Kay was inches away from equalising for Vale when he thumped a header against the crossbar.

Michael Doyle and Liam Kelly both went close for Coventry at the start of the second half, before Kelly headed over after 50 minutes.

Stuart Beavon and Doyle again came close around the hour mark as the home side dominated.

City were left clinging on in the final nine minutes after Rod McDonald was sent off for a lunging tackle on David Worrall.

Goalkeeper Lee Burge saved well to deny Marcus Harness after 85 minutes as Coventry held on.
