City were beaten 3-0 after allowing Spurs to give them a first half masterclass in an FA Cup Third Round tie and the midfielder, who captained the team in pre-season, but missed most of the season due to a parting gift from Gary Deegan.

Speaking to Joe Hewison, Thomas said: "There are definitely some positives we can take and I think the team they put out showed what they thought of us and that they didn't want to take any chances..

"We are just disappointed because we wanted to give something back to the fans, who were great today.

"Fingers crossed we can keep our other cup run going on Thursday against Preston in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and give the fans another day out."
