Competition for places

Nobody has a right to start in the team: Boothroyd Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has told his players to expect to fight for a starting place in the team. No one is exempt, not even Keiren Westwood. Boothroyd is looking to set up the Sky Blues as a feisty, aggressive team, one not intimidated by the opposition, but one that will intimidate instead. Boothroyd told the CT, “Every single player at this club, including the goalkeeper, will have competition for places. Nobody has a right to start in the team, whether it is Gary McSheffrey, Keiren Westwood or anybody." // '); // ]]> “What has gone on here before is fine but no one has a divine right to play and I will pick the best players who play every day and they will be in there." said Boothroyd.  "Competition for places is a must and they will be working at an intensity which will bring the best out of them or they will go by the wayside. There are more players to come in because it has to be feisty and it has to be competitive and you have to train as you play because you can’t switch it on and off like a light switch." “I am not really interested in picking players just because who they are. There will be competition all over the pitch. That’s what you want in an ideal world. They have to be at it every day and those who don’t train to their maximum will only have themselves to blame if they find themselves out of the team.”  Boothroyd is looking for a replacement  for Dimi Konstantopolous so Westwood has competition in goal. Danny Ireland, now the number two ' keeper is injured, leaving former academy goalie  Michael Quirke as Westwood's cover  “I am looking for a No.2. confirmed Boothroyd, “Danny has a knee injury at the minute so I have said he can go back to Australia for a couple of weeks to see his family and when he comes back he will be fighting for his place in the team, but at this moment in time I might need to get another goalkeeper, particularly in pre season when we might be looking at a couple of young triallists." // '); // ]]> “Michael Quirke has come up from the academy and it might be a little bit too early for him, but we definitely need to provide competition for Keiren, and also we need someone in training.”
