Coleman requests personal hearing

The FA charged the Coventry manager following comments made after his side's FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Chelsea earlier this month. Coleman criticised the performance of referee Steve Bennett after his team's 2-0 loss to the Premier League giants at the Ricoh Arena on March 7, labelling the Kent official 'smug'. Coleman is hoping that a face-to-face meeting with the FA disciplinary committee might help to improve referees. "I can understand, and I expected, that they would want to speak to me. But I want to speak to them also because not all my comments were wrong, and I won't go back on them," Coleman told the Coventry Telegraph. "We are never going to change things if we don't speak up, and if we don't address issues then how are referee's supposed to get better? "They won't improve by us protecting them or shying away from whatever problems we are faced with. Sometimes we say too much and maybe I have done it again, but I will gladly go and speak to the FA and flag up what I think is right and wrong. I am not against referees at all - I believe we should be helping them."
