Cody Confident goals will come
Striker getting sharper Coventry City's new boy, striker Cody McDonald in confident that he will soon start knocking in the goals. He had a golden opportunity to score at Portman Road on Monday, but saw his effort cleared off the line. Both McDonald and his manager Andy Thorn believe he is getting sharper with every training session and every game and it was noticeable on Monday that he was getting quicker at being in the right place at the right time. The Sky Blues striker feels he is getting sharper with every game and, as Monday’s showing at Ipswich proved, is winning half the battle by getting in the right places at the right time and apart from have a shot cleared of the line, he had other good chances which he failed to take. The 25 year old who signed from Norwich thinks it only needs one goal to go in and the flood gates will open and knows it is only a matter of time before he gets off the mark. Speaking to the CT, McDonald said, “We missed some good chances at Portman Road, myself mainly but the goals will come and I am sure in the next few weeks we will get some good results behind us and get up that league.” The one particular disappointment of Monday evening was the close range header he missed after heading the ball down only to see it bounce over the bar. He explained, “You have to head it down but I got over the top of it a bit too much. There was a little bit of pushing and shoving in the box but no excuses, I have got to hit the target from six yards out but I missed it. That would have been 2-1 and put us back in it, but unfortunately they went and scored another goal.” He is well aware he is ring rusty and need some time to get back up to speed, but he is level headed enough to realise that he cannot force the issue. He just need more game time to get sharp. “I was quite disappointed with my debut against Derby but I am not going to put myself down too much,” he said. “I thought I got hold of the ball a bit better on Monday and got on the end of a few crosses and that’s what I and here to do." “Juke is great and holds the ball up well and brings others in to play. I need to get on the end of his flick-ons and I think there is the making of a good partnership there. I am sure it will start coming back over the next few weeks. I haven’t played for four and a half months so I am confident it will come and that I will score goals." " I didn’t get a pre-season with the lads and coming into a new team just after the season has started is hard because you are playing catch up from day one, but I am working hard on the training ground and I am sure it will come. One will drop to me in the box and I’ll put it away and I’ll go on from there.”
