Club confirm Thorn and Harrison being considered for the top jobs
Club to 'update' supporters within the week Coventry City Football Club have made a statement about the vacant manager's position confirming that the current caretaker boss Andy Thorn is in the running and Steve Harrison is being considered for the coach's role. Club director Leonard Brody, last night tweeted that an update on the situation would be made sometime over the weekend, but the club statement seems to contradict that and says it hopes to be able to make a further update within the week. Thorn took over temporary charge of City in March after Aidy Boothroyd was sacked and so far he has done remarkably well and had led the team to almost certain safety from relegation. There have been calls from large sections of the City support to appoint Thorn and Harrison to the managerial posts full time. The board, although remaining tight lipped on the ongoing search for a new manager, have been working hard to find the right person for the job. Club chairman Ken Dulieu said, "Andy and Steve have done a very good job in a short space of time and the results really do speak for themselves. A great deal of change has taken place both at The Ricoh Arena and at Ryton and they have managed to take all of that in their stride and, in the face of some difficult matches, picked up a very good points tally." "There has been a great team effort on and off the field and that has certainly helped the club toward a positive end to the season. "Andy is in the running for the job on a permanent basis, with Steve as coach, but we have had a very strong response from some excellent candidates from around the country, reflecting what a prestigious andsought-after job this is." "We have a duty to the supporters of this club that we go through the correct and thorough process in appointing our next manager. That process is well underway and is being conducted without the threat ofrelegation." "We hope to be able to come back with a further update for supporters in a week's time. We've had great support in recent weeks from our fans and that has been very much appreciated. We've been doing all we can off-the-pitch for supporters with ticket offers for the final three matches as well as the kit launch, which is really capturing the imaginations of fans." The club's new chief executive Paul Clouting added that it was also imperative that the future of the playing staff was sorted out as quickly as possible as many key players are out of contract in the summer. He said, "Stage one of the jigsaw is getting the managerial position resolved and once that is done it will allow us to talk to players about the future and our ambitions for Coventry City. The manager is the key figure in shaping the squad so it is imperative to have that fixed and in place so we can continue building from there."
