Thorn gives Sammy the armband Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has made Sammy Clingan captain. Clingan wore the skippers armband for the final eight games of last season and Thorn has decided that the Northern Ireland international who will miss City's League Cup tie at Bury due to his country's Euro2102 Qualifier against the Faroe Islands, should keep the job. "He is a fantastic leader on and off the field but most of all he is a terrific footballer who loves this club.  "He leads by example and sets high standards for himself and those around him which is important as that helps everyone to improve.  "You always want a captain who others will look up to and follow - and I believe Sammy is that man.  "I told him the news over the phone the other day and he was delighted," said Thorn to the club website.
