Clarke: I can do better

Coventry youngster Jordan Clarke admits there was no excuse for his poor performance against Leeds on Saturday and he is determined to bounce back strongly. The 19-year-old full-back, who is in the England under-20 squad to face France on Wednesday, was tormented by Whites winger Max Gradel in the 1-0 defeat at Elland Road. The performance could be explained to some degree by the fact that the teenager has managed just four starts and seven substitute appearances this season as he returns from a long-term knee injury. Clarke, however, told the Coventry Telegraph: "I haven't played much but I don't like giving myself excuses. I am upset with myself and just so frustrated because I know I can do better than that. I have got no excuse for it. "I gave him (Gradel) too much space and when I fronted him up I dived in, which is poor from me. He's got pace and he cuts it on to his right foot but I think I made him a lot better than he is. "From this week I am doing extra in training, foot work and one v ones. I need to get myself fit and when I do people will see the difference. Next time you see me I am going to be a different player, I'll tell you that now."
