City were too complacent claims Boothroyd
City boss praises new players Coventry City boss was left a bit bemused by his side's FA Cup third round win over Crystal Palace on Saturday claiming his team were too complacent. He said, "It was almost too comfortable. We allowed complacency to creep in, even though we warned about that at half time because we knew that Palace would create a chance at some stage." “We totally took our foot off the pedal so we’ll have to discuss that in training, and we did get a little bit jittery in the final 10 minutes which you’d expect after the results we’ve had of late, but after the run we’ve been having it was very important to get a win and it’s a nice feeling because for an hour we played some great stuff with some good shots and good crosses.” Boothroyd made changes to the side that has endured a torrid time in the league over the last month and gave a first start to left back Stephen O’Halloran allowing two former stand in full backs Richard Wood and Martin Cranie playing in their much preferred positions in the centre of defence. In the second half, Boothroyd sent on 17 year old midfielder Conor Thomas for his senior debut. Boothroyd was full of praise for the two players saying, “Stephen was absolutely outstanding. He’s going to need carrying home because he’s exhausted after being out for so long, but when you’ve got an attacking full-back, which he’s been brought in to do, it gives us an extra dimension." “It’s all to easy to kick the ball upfield and look for Clive Platt or Lucas Jutkiewicz but it’s never been about the long pass or the short pass it’s about the good pass or the bad pass. Today we picked a lot of good passes, scored two really good goals and should have scored more." “Connor is a terrific young player; he moves the ball really well, is a fantastic passer and that’s what every team needs. He’s not ready to be starting games for us yet but he’s got a lot of quality and we think a lot of him." “The lads who came in did really well. I told them it was up to them to prove they should be in the team because I’m going to have some decisions to make when everybody comes back.”
