ENGLAND VETS 1-5 PANAMA

Eight Coventry City supporters played in the first ever England Vets game this morning at Bedfont Football Club.

Mike Smith, Tony Malone, Graham Flavell, Andy Jones, Lloyd Powell, Paul Seddon and Steve McCairns, all played for the team founded by City supporter Paul McKay against a team whose average age was 22 and a team which played together regularly.

After the national anthems, McKay headed a fourth minute cross from Tony Malone wide.

Man Of The Match Mike Smith made one cracking save with his feet but could do nothing to stop Panama taking a ninth minute lead or further goals in the 19th and 23rd minutes.

Paul Seddon had a left footed twenty yarder pushed over for a corner and in a spell of pressure from McKay's side England pulled one back on the half hour mark when Gareth Marks headed in a free kick.

Panama scored a fourth three minutes later with a header and a fifth eight minutes into the second half.

Seddon had another shot saved before Lloyd Powell was counting him unlucky when he finished off a good move only to ruled offside.

England finished strongly but went down to a defeat.

Englandfansfc played a lot older side from Belgium and had a convincing 8-0 win to win the Cuthbert Ottaway Memorial Cup.
