Of the teams who also beat higher division opposition, Macclesfield Town from the Conference beat Swindon 4-0 and Hartlepool United beat Notts County, who now have former City youngster Greg Abbott as an assistant manager, 3-2.

A number of non-league sides live to fight another day - Grimsby drew 0-0 with Scunthorpe, Boreham Wood drew 0-0 with Carlisle, Braintree drew 1-1 with Newport County, Brackley Town drew 1-1 against Gillingham, Lincoln City drew 0-0 with Plymouth, Gateshead drew 2-2 at Oxford United and Wycombe drew 1-1 with Crewe.
